In the United Methodist Church, Confirmation is a sacred season where young people learn, grow, and take ownership of their spiritual journey. It’s a chance to ask questions, wrestle with doubt, and discover the depth of God’s love. With the support of mentors, clergy, and peers, students prepare to claim their faith and commit to the life of the Church. Confirmation is an opportunity for our students to respond to the grace of God and become members of the UMC. Moving away from the traditional checkbox requirement toward membership, Lovers Lane seeks to offer an intentional discipleship model for the Confirmation journey.
What will we learn?
Students will spend time September through December focusing on what it means to live out their faith, their commitment as Christians, and God’s call for them as they continue to grow within Student Ministry! Confirmation is an opportunity to respond to the grace of God available to us — as acknowledged in baptism — and to promise to live as a person of faith.
When will Confirmation happen?
During Sunday mornings, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 AM starting September 7, we will have our Confirmation classes. The students will learn about the history of Methodism as well as the deep roots of Lovers Lane. We will explore major topics and understandings of our Christian faith.
At the end of Confirmation, the students will have an opportunity to join Lovers Lane UMC as full members of the church, if they wish. They can choose to be baptized if they never have been or remember their baptism from before. Of course, this is completely optional and not all students choose to do so. Nonetheless, this is a very special time in the spiritual journeys of these students and families. This is the time that they take the next step and take on personal responsibility of growing in faith and life of the Church.
We are having a Confirmation Kick-Off with Confirmation students, mentors, and parents Sunday, September 7 at 9:30 a.m. This is a time for us to gather, meet mentors, receive the schedule of classes, and answer all your questions.
