One of the predictable activities that is alive and well when a long-tenured pastor announces retirement from one of our larger churches is gossip. United Methodists, primarily the clergy-types love to gossip and speculate as to who is going where. Such is the case with my announced retirement and the establishment of a succession team to work with a consultant and the Bishop and cabinet, of course, to find Lovers Lane UMC a new pastor. We, United Methodists are prone to gossip because we all know each other and the churches that we serve. This video is funny but it was created to address a real problem of false information share with one of our staff members that the succession process was a sham that I had already picked my successor. Really? The video makes a decisive point to refute rumor and innuendo. Enjoy!
