“Those who HOPE in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wing like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be faint.” - Isaiah 40:31
I am Rev. Kay DeBlance and I am honored to be Lovers Lane’s new minister of Missions and Outreach. Lovers Lane has a rich history of being focused on serving others, and I am excited to continue that ministry in new ways. In 2012, the new Missions and Outreach Committee is praying about ways to help connect more people to hands on service projects, increase ways to be involved in outreach to our community, and also seeking after God’s call to help make his name famous throughout the world by meeting the needs of the least of these.
Lovers Lane Mission Opportunities
Please help us bring the HOPE of Jesus Christ to the following key initiatives:
DEVELOPING CHRISTIAN LEADERS
Lydia Patterson Institute
A United Methodist school, grades 6-12, in El Paso that provides a quality bilingual, cross-cultural academic education. 70% of students come from Juarez, Mexico, one of the most dangerous cities in the world. Almost all graduates attend college or trade school.
Moscow Seminary
Ten years ago, there were no churches in Russia. Today there are over 100. Moscow Seminary is training United Methodist ministers and sending them out to transform the country for Christ. Sergei Nikolaev, a former LLUMC member, directs the school.
Project Transformation
Project Transformation provides ministry exploration & leadership development opportunities to college-aged young adults, & community oriented programs for children and youth living in low-income neighborhoods of North Texas.
POVERTY & CHILDREN
Feed My Starving Children
Children & adults hand pack meals specifically formulated for malnourished children around the world. LLUMC will participate in FMSC for the 3rd year in 2012. The cost of a meal for one child is only 24 cents. 93% of every dollar goes to purchase food for children in need.
Haiti
For many years, Haiti has been the most impoverished country in the Western Hemisphere and most people there live on less than $1 a day. Following the massive earthquake of 2010, conditions have only gotten worse, but rebuilding efforts are underway. In 2012, LLUMC will send two mission teams to Haiti to come alongside of what God is doing and to spread the good news of Jesus Christ.
HEALTHCARE
Zoe Geh Hospital
Members of Lovers Lane created a hospital in a remote area of Liberia that previously had no medical facilities. The medical staff is providing care for people unable to survive the long journey to a major city hospital.
North Dallas Shared Ministries
NDSM provides charitable assistance, to persons in need, through offering a food bank, clothing closet, medical clinic, tax preparation, emergency aid, dental clinic, and job counseling. LLUMC is a covenant church with NDSM.
BUILDING NEW CHURCHES & PLACES
Christ’s Foundry
Christ’s Foundry serves as both a community center and a center of worship and spiritual growth for the Spanish-speaking community located just north of Love Field. Rev. Owen Ross pastors this congregation, which is truly transforming lives for Jesus Christ.
LLUMC Special Projects
The Mission and Outreach Committee has some big dreams for 2012! We will: participate in Amigos Days in April, host a back pack drive for kids in August, brainstorm ways to reach out to the homeless, and hold a Christmas outreach project. This fund will help make these dreams possible.
