Lovers Lane Deaf Ministry
We are the Deaf Ministry of Lovers Lane United Methodist Church which welcomes all, Deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing alike. We are a signing community of Christian believers. Our vision is “to share God’s love and grace with the d/Deaf community near and far.” Through an active ministry, we encourage spiritual growth and leadership in the Deaf community.
Our Deaf Fellowship meets Sundays at the Christ Family Center (northwest side of campus) in room 103/105, from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. for Bible study and worship in American Sign Language. We provide voice interpreting for our hearing friends and families of the Deaf.
On the first Sundays of the month, our Deaf Fellowship meets from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in Christ Family Center 103/105, and then goes to the 10:50 a.m.traditional worship service in the Sanctuary (east side of campus) which is also captioned and interpreted in ASL. On all other Sundays of the month, the Deaf Fellowship worships with the Thrive modern service in Asbury Hall at 9:30 a.m., interpreted in ASL.
Our Deaf Fellowship and ministry offers Bible study, retreats, missions, and programs locally and globally in ASL. Our sign choir performs monthly at our traditional worship service and rehearses Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. downstairs of the Sanctuary. We offer pastoral care, baptisms, weddings, and funerals in ASL by our pastor of the Deaf, Rev. Dr. Tom Hudspeth, who is assisted by Certified Lay Deaf Servants Scott Burley and Susan Judd. Upon consultation with our SEEDS team, we may provide life skills training for Deaf young adults, with one-on-one mentoring.
